Bike or stride the Coonawarra Rail Trail

Whether you’re a weekend warrior or a bicycle novice, Coonawarra’s Rail Trail is one of the most enjoyable ways to take in our world-renowned wine region.

Starting at Penola, the 19km trail moves through the region via lush grazing land, including of course many of our wonderful terra rossa vineyards and cellar doors. There are plenty of historical monuments to observe along the way, including the famous Coonawarra Rail Siding. No trip to the area is complete without a photo in front of ‘The Siding’, built by John Riddoch in 1898, it played an important part of the region’s prosperity by allowing fruits and wines to be transported around the nation and the world to Europe and beyond.

Fun for the Family

The newly sealed trail makes for a smooth ride, and it suitable for bikes and even prams should you want to make it a family outing. There are no steep or dangerous sections, plenty of stops along to the way to replenish, including the central community park in the Coonawarra township, which offers shady seating areas, public toilets and importantly a playground!

Coonawarra Store and enjoying a picnic along the way. You'll find an array of freshly made bites such as sandwiches and pies, along with plenty of cold drinks to pack and enjoy for lunch at the Coonawarra park.

If you’re travelling light, and didn’t pack your bike you can opt to hire one locally through Must @ Coonawarra who can sort you out with a two wheel chariot.

Visit Our Redman Coonawarra Cellar Door

Redman wines is located just off the side trail from Coonawarra Railway Siding to Coonawarra Township, with the Coonawarra Wineries Walking Trail connecting ourselves and our neighbouring wineries.

Our Cellar Door is open every day, except Christmas Day, Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm and Saturday, Sunday & Public Holidays 11am - 4pm. Drop in, say hello and discover our wines – there’s often a Redman family member behind the counter telling a tale and pouring your wines to guide you in your tasting.
