SKU: 2016 The Last Row Shiraz

In Redman’s oldest vineyard stands one row of 100-year-old Shiraz vines – together with grapes from our 85-year-old vines, The Last Row Shiraz is crafted.

The growing season was drier than average, and careful irrigation to optimise flavour development worked very well. Harvest was two weeks early, the result of a warmer than average October which advanced the whole season. There was a cooler finish with mild ripening conditions.

The Shiraz grapes were harvested on a cool morning, on 15th March. The fruit showed excellent flavour and varietal definition. The grapes were mechanically harvested and crushed in the field. After two days of cold soaking, a wild yeast ferment kicked off. Fermentation was carried out in open fermenting tanks and the cap was hand plunged twice a day. The wine completed fermentation on skins, and was then transferred to new French oak barrels.

The wine was bottled under screw cap, in February 2018, after 18 months of ageing in French oak hogsheads.

  • Colour: medium red with purple hints.
  • Bouquet: the nose shows spicy notes with dark red berries and cedary oak.
  • Palate: the palate is medium bodied with sweet rich fruit and soft velvety tannin. It's a well structured wine with a long lingering finish.
