The 2010 Redman Shiraz is made from grapes grown on forty five year old, hand pruned vines from the Redman family vineyards in the heart of Coonawarra.

 Winter rainfall in 2009 was above average giving good soil moisture levels for budburst in early spring. Favorable conditions continued during spring with minimal frost, while settled conditions throughout flowering allowed for good fruit set. During November, Coonawarra experienced a protracted 'hot spell', however, the vineyards were spared from damage as bunch development was still at an early stage. A return to more stable weather patterns during summer saw the grapes mature slowly.

 Harvesting of Shiraz began on the 11th March, which was a week to ten days earlier than average, and continued for another four weeks. The grapes were in excellent condition and showed good varietal character.

 The grapes were mechanically harvested and crushed in the field. Carefully monitored fermentation, using specially selected yeast, was carried out in open concrete and stainless steel fermenters. The wine was matured in American and French oak barrels for fourteen months prior to bottling.

Nick Stock tasting note July 2017;

'Attractive peppery, blueberry and plum fruits on the nose here. This has plenty of appeal and composure. The oak is played back into the wine and has a gently smoky influence on the palate. Umami-like glycerol texture, good density with balance, nice fresh tannins.'
