SKU: 2013 Shiraz

The 2013 Redman Shiraz is made from grapes grown on vines that are more than 40-years-old on the Redman family vineyards in the heart of Coonawarra.

The conditions leading into the 2013 vintage were excellent, with good winter rains and a warm fast flowering period in late spring. A good fruit set resulted in average crop levels. Summer was warm and dry, with a cool autumn allowing the grapes to ripen to optimum maturity.

The Shiraz grapes were harvested during the third week of March. The fruit showed excellent flavour and varietal definition. The grapes were mechanically harvested and crushed in the field. Initial fermentation was carried out in open fermenting tanks and the cap was hand plunged twice a day.

The wine completed fermentation on skins, and was then transferred to barrels. The wine was bottled, in February 2015, after 18 months ageing in American and French oak hogsheads.

  • Colour: medium red with purple hints.
  • Bouquet: the nose shows spicy notes with red berries and cedary oak.
  • Palate: the palate is medium bodied. Sweet rich fruit and soft velvet tannins result in a well structured wine with a long dry finish.

Living away from home for many years deprived me the joys of experiencing some of the wonderful wines Australia is producing such as this Redman 2013 Shiraz from Coonawarra. This is certainly on my list to add to purchase when I repatriate in July!
